Project Number: 2010-1-GB2-GRU06-03542 7
“VOLARE” represents a commitment to develop the active participation of adult learners in their own educational experience, as planners, designers, agents of delivery and evaluators.
There is a current emphasis in many parts of Europe, but not all, on viewing learners as active participants in the life of their institutions. This can be at many different levels and can take many different forms. There is a need to establish precisely what makes effective learner involvement and to achieve this there needs to be participation and involvement of different learners and staff in varied education settings.
Because of the nature of the project topic, it is vital that learners are involved throughout this project and that they are seen as equal partners. Many authoritative studies have demonstrated that education is of a higher standard where the views of the learners are embedded in the educational setting, and the project aims to verify this across a significant range of European adult education settings.
This project will identify effective practice using a variety of methods, and an e-guide will be produced for educational settings to access for advice on strategies to promote learner involvement. A short course for teachers in different EU countries will also be produced and made available electronically.

The project aims at the integration of the learners’ voice into the life of the organization.
At the end of the project we will have:
This will be achieved through research within the different institutions, but these institutions will also be expected to carry out further, wider research within their own countries. It is envisaged that both qualitative and quantitative approaches will be used and it is vital that learners will be involved in this process throughout.
Through this research we will identify effective strategies which can be disseminated to promote the learner voice in adult education institutions.
The results of the research will be collated by the partnership. A website will be established which will be used to disseminate different effective strategies. This e-resource will also be freely available to other EU countries not involved in the project.
“VOLARE” is a Learning partnership funded by the European Union within GRUNDTVIG.
The Project has duration of 24 months. The official start was 1. August 2010.
